Q&A

February 2nd, 2010 · No Comments

I took Strider out the other day for personal reasons (his). I was staring at the muddy yard and my brand-new, glistening white shoes, thinking there was absolutely no way they were going to stay white more than a couple of days with all this muck. So I took a picture for posterity. Also because I like having new shoes. So that’s that.

Clarence asked a question, though:

By the way, with all your walking experience, have you arrived at one brand that are your favorite for any number of reasons? How many pairs have you worn out so far just keeping in shape?

Thanks for asking. By the way, Clarence wrote a very interesting post today on groundhogs, including what they taste like. You should read it. Clarence always has interesting things to say, actually. I’m not just being nice.

Anyway. The answer is no, I don’t have a favorite brand; I buy what seems reasonably priced. This new pair cost $40 at Fred Meyers. And I guess I wear through a pair of shoes in about six months, although I’m not organized enough to keep one pair only for exercise; I wear them all the time. When I’m being good and disciplined, I walk between 30-40 miles a week for exercise, not a lot but enough; other times, like now, when I’m trying to get rid of this holiday flab, it might get closer to 60. My shoes tend to flap at that rate right about the six-month mark.

Next question.
